The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the homeowner was detained for questioning.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A homeowner shot and killed a man who Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators believe was trying to break in to his house in Jacksonville’s Brentwood area early Friday morning.
JSO Sgt. M.W. Highfill said around 3:45 a.m., officers responded to the shooting on North Pearl Street.
When officers arrived on scene, Highfill said they found a man who had been shot multiple times.
JFRD crews arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead, Highfill said.
The shooting is still under investigation, but Highfill said investigators believe the man shot was trying to break into the home.
“What we know now is that an individual was involved possibly in a burglary at the residence at the time of the incident, and the homeowner, in defense of himself, shot the person inside his home,” Highfill said.
One person, the homeowner, has been detained for questioning, Highfill said.
Highfill further explained that the relationship between the homeowner and man killed is unknown, and that “it appears” the man made entry into the home.
