Sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle but, unfortunately, good old Hypnos can sometimes evade us. Some more than others.
And this seems to be especially so for the residents of this city in Pennsylvania.
According to a study recently conducted and published by Amerisleep’s Early Bird blog. Philadelphia is the number one most sleep-deprived city in the country.
Researchers determined this after they collected data from sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns as well as the 2025 County Health Rankings and Roadmaps. Environmental, health, and wellness-related data — as well as the survey answers of over 1,200 respondents — were also taken into account for final results.
“Overall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ranks as the sleepiest city in our analysis,” the study explains. “Residents there work an average 39 hours per week.
“But with only about 10 wellness practitioners per 100,000 people and 43 percent of adults getting fewer than seven hours of sleep per night, support and rest can be harder to come by.”
“On the other hand, Portland, Oregon, stands out as the most well-rested city,” the study continues. “It offers strong wellness support, cleaner air, and better access to rest-friendly environments.”
The report also suggests things like making sure you have the right environment — such as ensuring your room is cool and eliminating light — in order to improve your shut-eye.
