PHOENIX — There are no freeway closures scheduled in Arizona for the first weekend of September, but officials said several ramps will be closed.

In its Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Sept. 5-8, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) said that two ramps in north Phoenix and two ramps in Chandler will be closed.

In terms of time, the longest closure in ADOT’s advisory was the off-ramp from the northbound Interstate 17 to Loop 303 and Sonoran Desert Drive in north Phoenix.

This closure will be in place from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to allow crews to create a work zone so the exit can be widened.

To avoid this closure, drivers who need to access westbound Loop 303 can get off I-17 at Dove Valley Road, then head west to 43rd Avenue, which can be used to access the freeway.

Other freeway ramp closures to note this weekend

Several other ramps around the Valley will be closed this weekend due to new or ongoing projects.

The ramp from the eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway to southbound State Route 51 will be closed from 10 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday so crews can create a work area for a ramp widening project that is expected to be completed next summer. Drivers can take Cave Creek Road or Tatum Boulevard to Union Hills Drive to access SR 51 during the closure.

On the eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway in Chandler, the on-ramp and McQueen Road and the off-ramp at Cooper Road will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday for the freeway’s ongoing widening project. To avoid these closures, drivers can get on Loop 202 at Cooper Road or exit Loop 202 at McQueen Road.

Several other ramps on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway already have closures in place due to this project, including:

  • The westbound on-ramp at Arizona Avenue, which is expected to open in mid-October.
  • The westbound off-ramp at Price Road, which is expected to open later this month.
  • The westbound off-ramp at Alma School Road, which is expected to open in November.

In Scottsdale, the off-ramp from the southbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway at Raintree Drive is closed as part of a freeway widening project. This is the final long-term ramp closure for that project and is scheduled to reopen in November. To get around this closure, ADOT advises drivers to get off Loop 101 at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and then re-enter the freeway at Raintree Drive.

Finally, on the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in Phoenix, the off-ramp from the westbound lanes at 67th Avenue and the off-ramp from the eastbound lanes at 27th Avenue are closed due to an ongoing freeway widening project.
