Some severe storms are moving through Dallas-Fort Worth on Friday evening.

The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office released a special weather statement, issuing a severe thunderstorm warning for Denton County and parts of Cooke and Grayson counties until 10:45 p.m.

“Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm,” the statement read. “Move indoors immediately. Lightning can kill.”

The storm could produce 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail, which the weather service said is expected to damage vehicles, roofs, siding and trees.

Thursday’s high of 102 was significantly above average for early September, and another oppressive day is forecast for Friday. The high is slightly lower, at 100 degrees exactly, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

This year has seen significantly fewer triple-digit days than other years in recent memory, with only seven recorded as of Thursday. But it remains to be seen just how many more could arrive before North Texas is finally greeted by fall.
