It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 16 which has been worn by 13 of those players in the history of the franchise. This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history.

Here is the list of the 13 players who have worn No. 16 in Sixers history:

Red Rocha

Rocha played four seasons for the Syracuse Nationals. He retired for a season and returned in 1954. He averaged 11.3 points and 7 rebounds.

Bob Lavoy

Lavoy played 60 games for the Nationals, and he averaged 5.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in those games.

Al Bianchi

Bianchi wore two numbers for the Sixers. In the seasons he donned No. 16, he averaged 8.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.

Johnny Green

When Green was acquired from the San Diego Rockets, he donned No. 16 for the rest of the 1967-68 season. In those games, he averaged 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds. He switched to No. 12 the following season.

George Wilson

Wilson averaged 5.5 points and 5.1 rebounds while donning No. 16 for the Sixers.

Bailey Howell

Howell is a Hall of Famer who spent one season with the Sixers. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in the 1970-71 season for the Sixers, his final NBA season.

Marreese Speights

Speights, the 16th pick in the 2008 NBA draft, played three seasons for the Sixers. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds. He won a title with the Golden State Warriors in 2015.

Francisco Elson

Elson, playing for the San Antonio Spurs in the above photo, wore two numbers for the Sixers, 8 and 16. He wore No. 16 in the 2011-12 season when he averaged 0.4 points and 0.2 rebounds in five games for Philadelphia.

Chris Johnson

Johnson played nine games for Philadelphia, including two starts, early in the 2014-15 season. He averaged 6 points and 2.9 rebounds.

Charlie Brown Jr.

Brown, a former Saint Joseph’s player, averaged 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in the 2021-22 season. He played 19 games, including two starts, when the team was hit hard by COVID-19, forcing a number of players into the league’s health and safety protocol.

Ricky Council IV

Council wore two numbers with the Sixers in his two years with the team. He wore No. 16 as a rookie and averaged 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds. He switched to No. 14 in his second season before he was waived and signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

Caleb Martin

One of the many Sixers affected by the injury bug in the 2024-25 season, Martin played only 31 games and averaged 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds along with 2.2 assists before he was sent to the Dallas Mavericks at the 2025 trade deadline.

Lonnie Walker IV

Brought in at the deadline from overseas, Walker played 20 games for the Sixers and averaged 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He is now back overseas after signing a deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
