The district donated nearly 50 desktop computers, along with 60 new mice and keyboards
Saanich has donated nearly 50 desktop computers, along with 60 new mice and keyboards, to WSANEC LAUWELNEW Elementary School ahead of the new school year.
Saanich chief information officer Trevor Hurst said the district was inspired to act after joining the WSANEC Leadership Council in a recent naming ceremony at PKOLS.
“Nothing is more important than a good education, so it’s important that as a district we take every opportunity to support students in their pursuit of knowledge,” he said.
WSANEC school board chair Chief Don Tom welcomed the donation, calling it an important step in reconciliation.
“Today is the first of many to reconcile our histories,” Tom said. “This will serve our students and the modern demand for technology in education.”
The donation stems from a 2021 memorandum of understanding between Saanich and the WSANEC Leadership Council, which formalized collaboration on areas including land, economic development, protection of ancestral sites and public education.
