SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio voters will soon decide the fate of Project Marvel, with the San Antonio Spurs actively seeking to garner support for the initiative.
The team hosted their first public event today to encourage voter approval on two key propositions.
One proposition seeks nearly $200 million for upgrades and expansions to East Side facilities, including the Frost Bank Center and the Freeman Coliseum. The other proposition authorizes more than $300 million to fund a new downtown arena.
As part of the project, the Spurs have pledged over $1 billion toward development and community benefits. Despite this commitment, the plan has faced hesitation from some voters who are demanding more independent analysis of its potential economic impact. Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is among those expressing caution.
