PHOENIX – A man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in Phoenix last year and fled to Mexico was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison, authorities announced Monday.

Eduardo Galindo-Ramirez, 32, received an 18.5-year sentence on Friday after previously pleading guilty to second-degree murder for the death of 24-year-old Andrea Casarubias Romero, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Casarubias Romero was found dead inside Galindo-Ramirez’s residence near Indian School Road and 27th Avenue on May 5, 2024.

Officers responding to a welfare check followed a blood trail to find the victim’s body.

Prosecutors said Galindo-Ramirez stabbed his girlfriend more than 30 times during a fight before showering, treating a hand wound and fleeing to Mexico.

The victim’s brother spoke to Galindo-Ramirez on the phone and convinced him to return to the United States and turn himself in.

Ramirez-Galindo surrendered himself to Customs and Border Patrol agents in Lukeville, Arizona, a day after the victim’s body was found, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

“At no point did this defendant show any regard for Andrea’s life,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a press release Monday. “He attempted to wash himself clean of his actions, but thanks to the diligent work of the Phoenix Police Department and the perseverance of her family, he was brought to justice.”
