The University of Tennessee is taking on NASCAR during a pivotal playoff weekend at the Last Great Colosseum.

According to a Tuesday announcement, the orange and white of the Volunteers will take over the Dawson Sutton’s No. 26 Rackley W.A.R. Chevrolet Silverado on Thursday, Sept. 11 (8 p.m. ET).

The location for this sponsorship will be Bristol Motor Speedway, a historic short track located just under two hours to the northeast of Neyland Stadium.

Rackley W.A.R. also serves as a logical team to partner with the Tennessee Volunteers. The Craftsman Truck Series team operates out of Nashville, Tennessee. This company, and Rackley Roofing, is Tennessee through and through, especially when it sponsors the annual night race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Sutton joins forces with the Volunteers as he prepares for the 20th start of his first full-time campaign. The rookie has one top-10 finish, which he secured at Texas Motor Speedway. His average finish is 20.2.

This is not the first time that a university has partnered with a NASCAR team. Several have made the leap into big-time stock car racing in recent seasons while partnering with Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Craftsman Truck Series teams.

The most recent example took place at Portland International Raceway. Sam Hunt Racing and Dean Thompson partnered with the Oregon State Beavers for the Xfinity Series’ lone trip to the Pacific Northwest this season.

The No. 26 Toyota GR Supra featured the black and orange Beavers scheme, which coincided with Week 1 of the college football season.

Some other teams who have partnered with college teams include Stewart-Haas Racing and Haas Factory Team. Both versions of this organization partnered with Texas A&M University.

NY Racing Team joined forces with Syracuse for this season’s Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International. It previously partnered with Grambling State, Florida A&M, and Stillman College.

William Byron has showcased Liberty University across multiple racing series. This includes time with Kyle Busch Motorsports, JR Motorsports, and Hendrick Motorsports.
