NY Giants training camp 2025 practice highlights from the sidelines

See and hear New York Giants players in highlights during training camp practices from the sideline in East Rutherford.

EAST RUTHERFORD – Andrew Thomas’ absence in the New York Giants‘ season-opening loss to the Washington Commanders was noticeable, to say the least.

The star left tackle could be in line to return Sunday afternoon against another NFC East rival in the Dallas Cowboys.

Thomas missed the entire preseason due to his recovery from offseason foot surgery, only returning to practice two weeks ago. He suffered a Lisfranc fracture against the Cincinnati Bengals last October and played in just six games before undergoing a procedure to repair the injury. He began training camp on the physically unable to perform [PUP] list, but was activated.

Andrew Thomas: What the Giants are missing

When healthy, Thomas is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL and a key to the Giants’ success up front. He has missed time each of the past two years, yet remains one of their most valuable players – if not their most valuable on offense.

Thomas was a limited participant in last Wednesday’s fully padded practice and wound up taking his first team reps two days later with a day of treatment rather than practice in between. He was officially listed as doubtful and was inactive for Sunday’s 21-6 loss against the Commanders.

Will Andrew Thomas’ return change things up front?

The Giants’ offensive line did not live up to expectations, continuing a theme that has extended well beyond Thomas’ injury-plagued seasons the last two seasons. James Hudson started at left tackle and struggled in pass protection. He also committed two penalties, including a hold that negated a Russell Wilson-to-Theo Johnson 16-yarder that would’ve put the Giants in the red zone.

The interior of the offensive line got pushed around by the Commanders’ retooled front, leading to questions as to whether the Giants should make changes, perhaps inserting rookie tackle Marcus Mbow either for Hudson or moving right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor to guard, allowing Mbow to play there.

Veteran Greg Van Roten, the starter at right guard, also has experience at center, where the Giants currently start former second-round pick John Michael Schmitz.

Giants coach Brian Daboll said Monday that he did not anticipate any personnel changes on the offensive line.
