Jannik Sinner not only lost the US Open final to Carlos Alcaraz, but also his place as number one in the world rankings.
The ATP top 10 has been updated following the conclusion of the US Open, where Alcaraz lifted the trophy for a second time.
He defeated Sinner in another exciting Grand Slam final between the duo, who also met at the same stage of the French Open and Wimbledon this year.
But their latest tie had extra significance, with Alcaraz returning to the summit of the ATP rankings in place of his closest rival.
Sinner spent 65 weeks in that spot after first claiming it last summer, at which point he became the first Italian number one.

But his lengthy reign is now over, with Sinner just missing out on a spot in the top 10 list for players with the most weeks spent as world number one.
His recent 65-week spell places him 12th in the list, with men’s legend Stefan Edberg also missing out in 11th.
It is indeed Novak Djokovic who tops the pile, having spent a phenomenal 428 weeks as world number one.
He is followed by fellow legend Roger Federer in second, while the iconic Pete Sampras occupies third place.
Completing the top five are Ivan Lendl in fourth and Jimmy Connors in fifth, with Djokovic the only active player within the top 10.
New world number one Alcaraz meanwhile is 17th in the list, having so far spent 37 weeks at the summit of men’s tennis.

There is, of course, another important aspect of being number one in the ATP rankings, which involves the most consecutive weeks.
And the top 10 does indeed look slightly different to the total list, although unsurprisingly the usual suspects are prevalent.

Federer takes the honours this time around, followed by Connors and Lendl in second and third respectively.
And there is a spot for Sinner in the top 10, while Alcaraz is again 17th with his total of 20 maximum consecutive weeks as ATP number one.
