Fire crews from Tempe and Phoenix responded to a house fire caused by an electric vehicle, resulting in significant damage.

TEMPE, Ariz. — A home sustained heavy damage after a fire early Wednesday morning.

Crews from Tempe and Phoenix responded to a home near Baseline Road and 48th Street and found an electric vehicle and charging port engulfed in flames. The fire reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. and spread from the carport to the home.

Tempe Fire said specialized tactics were used because of the vehicle’s battery. A thermal imaging camera, Cold Cut Cobra, and targeted suppression strategies were used.

Officials said a man, woman and dog escaped the home before the fire overtook the house. Authorities towed away the damaged vehicle, identified as a Volkswagen ID4, in case of any re-ignition incidents.

No injuries were reported from the fire.

The incident is under investigation.
