JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the nation pauses to mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, several events taking place across the First Coast on Thursday will honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and reflect on a day that forever changed the course of history.

9/11 Tower Challenge at Williams Family YMCA

  • JFRD firefighter Nick Billups and other firefighters will climb 110 floors on a StairMaster in full firefighter gear at the Williams Family YMCA in Jacksonville

  • Firefighters to hold ceremony at Macclenny Fire Station No. 1
  • Time: 9 a.m.

City of St. Augustine’s Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

  • Ceremony to include multi-agency honor guard, invocation and remarks from local leaders
  • Time: 8:30 a.m.

4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Ride

  • Hosted by the American Legion Riders of Post 372, a large procession of motorcyclists will ride through Jacksonville to pay their respects to the lives lost in the attacks, as well as perform a wreath-laying ceremony at the Bartram Trail High School 9/11 Memorial
