The Cowboys went on the road last week and lost to the defending Super Bowl champs in a close battle. The Giants went on the road and lost to the NFC runner-ups in a division matchup.

The Giants and Cowboys find themselves in similar situations as they quare off in a Week 2 battle between NFC East rivals. Both teams are looking to avoid an 0-2 start.

Here are some staff predictions for Sunday’s game at AT&T Stadium.

Tommy Yarrish: The Cowboys have won 15 out of the last 16 against the Giants. Sources tell me that’s really good. Dallas has consistently done a better job in terms of stacking their roster in comparison to New York over the last decade or so, but I feel like the Giants are starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Having Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux coming into the year and then adding Abdul Carter with the third overall pick gives them a troublesome front to deal with. They’ve got one of the best young receivers in the game in Malik Nabers on the offensive side of the ball too. All of that in mind though, the rest of their roster is still a big question mark. At this point, it seems like a lot has to go right for them to win games, and last week against Washington, they had opportunities but couldn’t take advantage of them. I think that’ll be the case again this week against the Cowboys and that Dallas makes it nine straight wins over the G-Men. Cowboys 34, Giants 21

Patrik: First of all, remind yourself this is a week-to-week league and, as such, there is no such thing as a trap game; and especially when it involves and NFC East matchup. With that reality now stated, I have scanned this matchup from every angle and while there are a couple that concern me for the Cowboys, e.g., Malik Nabers and Dexter Lawrence, there should be far too much for the Giants to overcome in Week 2 to deliver an upset at AT&T Stadium. The offensive line in New York is literally that, offensive, and Russell Wilson may have even less time to throw against a defensive front that also now features Kenny Clark, plus the rushing attack for the Giants was abysmal against the Commanders in Week 1.

On the other side of the ball, the Giants are exceptional at the edges but, Lawrence notwithstanding, vulnerable in the interior of their defensive line, setting up the Cowboys to potentially have a really good day running the ball — neutralizing the pass rush in the process along with play-action passes to a secondary that not only lacks the personnel to keep up with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, but also one facing a pissed off Lamb. Avoid the dreaded 0-2 hole and Cowboys 40, Giants 17

Nick: The more this game goes on, the closer I think it’s going to be. And maybe this is because of the DaRon Bland injury but I think it’s more than that. I relaly can’t remember a team that went 7-10 a year ago, missed the playoffs, lost the first game of the season, and considered a big favorite in the second game. Let’s not forget this is a division game between two teams that desperately need to get to .500.

Yes, I think the Cowboys are clearly the better team, but that doesn’t always matter in games like this. What scares me about the Giants is their pass rush. Even against the Commanders last week, they still got three sacks. And that’s a position that can take over a game and keep a team close until it’s time to strike at the end. Then, I’ll think about it more and I see CeeDee and Pickens going off with big days. I see the Cowboys’ defense getting after Russell Wilson all day as well. So let’s split the difference. There’s 24-point blowout that I can see on one hand, and a four-point win on the other, I’ll find the middle and pick the Cowboys to win it, 26-16.

Kyle Youmans: It’s hard for me to look at the current New York Giants and believe they’re the same team Dallas has owned over the last eight meetings. At some point they’re going to figure out their problems and become a contender. Especially with the young talent they have with Abdul Carter and Malik Nabers on the roster. However, that time has not come quite yet. Dallas is the more talented team, they have the deeper roster, and I’d argue they’re the more well coached team. I expect the Giants to put up a fight, but Dallas to pull away at the end. Dallas wins a wacky game with a wacky final score, 27-16.

Mickey Spagnola: Getting pressure on Giants quarterback Russell Wilson with be of optimum importance, so looking for Sam Williams in his second game back since missing all last year after tearing his ACLat the start of training camp to have a big day. Not only rushing the quarterback but also setting the edge against the run. Time for him to blossom. And if he’s able to stand out, and the other guys follow suit, the Cowboys will win this game 30-17 to even their record at 1-1.
