The larger-than-life creation has quickly become the centerpiece of this year’s Homecoming celebrations.

EVERMAN, Texas — A North Texas high school has taken school spirit to new heights — literally.

This week, Everman High School debuted a massive two-story homecoming mum, designed and built by one of the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers and their students.

The larger-than-life creation was led by an electrical teacher in the CTE program and has quickly become the centerpiece of this year’s Homecoming celebrations. The school says it’s a symbol of pride, craftsmanship, and school spirit throughout the week’s festivities.

For decades, high school students across the state have exchanged the oversized corsages — often featuring silk flowers, flowing ribbons, bells, charms and plush mascots — as a way to celebrate school pride.

The treasured Texas tradition dates back to the 1930s. Through the years, the mums keep getting bigger, flashier and more expensive. Today, mums can stretch from the shoulder to the knees and cost hundreds of dollars.
