DALLAS — A gruesome crime unfolded Wednesday morning at the Downtown Suites Motel in East Dallas, where a man was brutally attacked and decapitated with a machete.
According to an arrest affidavit, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos Martinez was captured on video stabbing 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah multiple times.
Witnesses reported that the victim attempted to flee towards the motel’s front office, where his wife and son were present.
“He chased him from 108 all the way to the office. The man was trying to get into the office to tell his family,” a witness said. Despite efforts by the victim’s family to intervene, the suspect continued his attack.
Brianna Erwin, a resident, expressed her shock, saying, “I find it sick, disgusting. It just, I’m speechless.” Another resident described the incident as “kinda out of the norm and is mind-blowing.”
Dallas Fire personnel were the first to arrive on the scene and found Cobos Martinez covered in blood, still holding the machete. They apprehended him down the road.
Sources indicate that Nagamallaiah was the motel manager, while Cobos Martinez worked there as a maintenance man.
A witness recounted the family’s distress, saying, “I feel bad for his family because he got a wife and a son. They came out, and they didn’t know what to do. She was screaming and hollering, but I told her to get back because I didn’t know if he was going to attack her, too.”
Cobos Martinez has been charged with capital murder. Dallas County Jail records reveal he has an immigration hold for allegedly being in the U.S. without authorization. His criminal history includes arrests for auto theft in Florida and charges of indecency with a child and assault in Houston. Police confirmed that Cobos Martinez has admitted to the crime.
