JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 14-year-old boy is accused of murder after police say he gunned down another teen in Jacksonville.

On Wednesday, District 4 patrol officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) say they responded to an apartment complex on Labelle Street for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies say they found 18-year-old Marlon Lane with multiple gunshot wounds. They rushed Lane to the hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit, working with the Crime Scene Unit and the State Attorney’s Office, ultimately identified 14-year-old Keyon Byrd as their prime suspect, per deputies.

“We can’t stress this enough: parents and family members, please get involved in your children’s lives,” JSO wrote in a post to Facebook.

Byrd turned himself in on Friday, the same day a warrant was issued for his arrest.
