PHOENIX — A motorcyclist was hit and killed after striking a self-driving Waymo near Arizona State University’s Tempe campus early on Sunday morning, authorities said.
Police responded to the area of Lemon Street and Rural Road around 1:30 a.m. for a crash involving two cars and a motorcycle, according to the Tempe Police Department.
The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries. He was later pronounced dead, authorities said.
AZFamily reported that the other vehicle involved “struck the motorcyclist and continued driving” away from the scene after the motorcyclist had hit the Waymo.
An investigation is ongoing.
