Jeff Hiller wins Emmy for “Somebody Somewhere,” his first nomination and victory.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio high school graduate grew up and became an Emmy Award winner! Congratulations to Jeff Hiller!

Hiller graduated from Churchill High School in 1994 and took home the Emmy Sunday night for his role as Joel in HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere.” Hiller was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series going up against six other talented actors, including Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, Harrison Ford, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Michael Urie and Bowen Yang.

This was the San Antonio native’s first win and nomination with many of the Entertainment outlets claiming he was a long-shot, but as his name was announced many of the nominees including Yang stood and cheered for Hiller as he walked toward the stage.

Hiller seemed in disbelief as he was given the Emmy.

“I feel like I’m going to cry because for the past 25 years I’ve been like ‘World, I want to be an actor,’  and the world’s like ‘Maybe computers,'” Hiller said laughing.

He then continued his speech thanking HBO for “putting a show about sweaty, middle aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of Euphoria.”

He also thanked his husband and family “for never laughing at me.” Hiller ended the speech by thanking his co-star Bridget Everett, “You changed my life and you told so many people to believe in themselves, and they do! Thank you.”

North East ISD posted on Facebook congratulation Hiller on his massive accomplishment. The post stated that while Hiller attended Churchill High School he participated in the Thespian Society, Show Choir, Regional Choir, and even served as Choir Vice President.

“We are so proud to see him succeed. That’s the #theNEISDway,” the post read.
