The New York Times released an updated dining guide for Chicago this week, highlighting some of the city’s most iconic restaurants that have gained more attention thanks to their inclusion on “The Bear.”

But the region has plenty more to offer than the eateries featured on the restaurant drama based in The Windy City, with NYT even looking outside the city for perhaps the guide’s biggest surprise inclusion.

Located in north suburban Highwood, Hawaiian establishment “Da Local Boy” was named to the updated dining guide.

The one-year-old restaurant was hailed by the publication for its elevated takes on Hawaiian essentials, singling out a pork belly marinated in calamansi juice and ponzu, chargrilled and served with rice and macaroni salad.

The paper also highlighted the restaurant’s poke bowl and grilled beef short rib offerings, among others.

In response to the inclusion, Da Local Boy released a statement acknowledging the national honor.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by the New York Times. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our team, and we are grateful to our loyal customers for their support. We look forward to continuing to serve our community with passion and creativity and we can’t wait to share our food to even more people,” a statement from the restaurant said.

Da Local Boy can be found in Highwood at 320 Green Bay Road.
