PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A woman was killed during a shootout that happened while she was on her porch on Tuesday in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion section.

Police said shots were fired from both sides of W. Montgomery Avenue, near N. 31st Street, just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The 27-year-old victim was on the porch with two other people when she was struck once in the back, ran into the house, where police said she died a short time later.

Most of the shots — more than a dozen — were fired at the home from the opposite side of the street, police said.

“They were clearly shooting in that direction because one bullet went in the living room window, lodged in the living room wal,l and the house. The bricks were struck multiple times by gunfire because you can see fresh strike marks,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small, with the Philadelphia Police Department.

Police said it appears this was a shootout because shots were fired from a different gun near the porch and sidewalk where the victim was hit.

Investigators believe multiple families live in the house and possibly rent rooms.

Officers said three adults and three kids, ranging in ages from 8 to 17, were inside the house where the victim collapsed and died.

It’s unclear if she was related to any of them.

The house next door was also stuck by bullets and police said children also live in that house.

No one was else was injured during the shooting.
