1. Sources: State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie set to endorse Zohran Mamdani
Democratic state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is expected to endorse Zohran Mamdani for mayor, sources confirmed to NY1.
Although Heastie was conspicuously absent from a Bronx County Democratic Party endorsement rally for Mamdani earlier this month, he’s expected to lend his support today.
2. Trump admin is in ‘denial’ about American history, Congressional Black Caucus chair says
Rep. Yvette Clarke, chair of the influential Congressional Black Caucus, says President Donald Trump is trying to “whitewash” American history.
In an interview with Spectrum News NY1, the Democratic Brooklyn congresswoman criticized the president for taking issue with exhibits at national parks and museums about slavery and other seismic events in United States history that portray the country in a negative light.
The Trump administration, she said, is in “denial” about the “accurate” history of the U.S.
3. Mott Haven residents on issues facing the community
In the Mott Haven neighborhood in the South Bronx, residents say they’re struggling with a host of issues, including gun violence, putting food on the table and good housing.
The neighborhood is also expected to be home to a borough-based jail following the city’s plan to dismantle Rikers Island.
