Tips to follow if someone you know goes missing.
Stephen J. Houghton, of Keeseville, New York, was last seen on February 20, 2022, at a Stewart’s gas station in Port Henry, Essex County. He was 35 years old at the time.
Houghton was officially reported missing by his mother in August 2023, over a year after his last known sighting, according to New York State Police.
Vehicle found abandoned
According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUS), Houghton’s vehicle was later found abandoned on Johnson Pond Road in North Hudson, also in Essex County.
Federal reward offered
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to Houghton’s whereabouts.
Description and tribal affiliation
At the time he disappeared, Houghton was:
- 33 years old
- 6 feet, 2 inches tall
- Weighed approximately 225 pounds
- Had black hair and blue eyes
He is now 37 years old. According to NamUS, he is enrolled with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
Police: Family cooperating, investigation ongoing
“Family and friends are cooperating with law enforcement to provide any information that may help locate him,” the New York State Police said in a statement.
