Florian Wirtz earned lots of praise for what many fans thought was his “best” Liverpool outing yet, as the Reds beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 at Anfield.
The Reds started their Champions League campaign with the visit of Diego Simeone’s side, and a last-gasp winner was again the order of the day.
Alexander Isak showed flashes of quality on his Liverpool debut, but it was the club’s second-most expensive signing who caught the eye more.

Wirtz has made a solid start to life at Liverpool rather than a spectacular one, and this was his standout performance to date.
The German looked a class act in tight spaces and created more chances (five) than any other player, linking neatly with Isak, too.
There are further gears for Wirtz to find, but this felt like a big step in the right direction.
Next up for Wirtz is Everton at Anfield, in what is a great chance for the 22-year-old to make a big impact on his first Merseyside derby appearance.
