Garibaldi, the InterContinental San Diego hotel’s third-floor restaurant overlooking San Diego Bay, is unveiling a new concept, look and menu this week.
The new Garibaldi, led by executive chef Franck Tasic, is now serving a Mediterranean menu that incorporates flavors from Spain, France, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, Greece, Morocco, Croatia, Lebanon, Turkey, Cyprus and more. There’s also a new full-service bar and new seating on the outdoor terrace.
Garibaldi opened in March 2020, just a week before the pandemic shut down restaurants nationwide. When it reopened, it was designed as a hidden speakeasy restaurant-bar with a California coastal theme. Later, the menu was revamped to focus on the cuisine of Sardinia and other Italian islands.
Tasic’s new menu, featuring herbs from a garden on the hotel’s rooftop, will feature small, large and shareable plates. Specialties include house-made spreads like whipped feta and muhammara, Turkish-style pide flatbreads, bluefin tuna tartare with preserved lemon aioli and Calabrian chiles, grilled Iberico pork presa, swordfish au poivre, and a couscous meal for two to three diners, featuring lamb, chicken, sausage and vegetables.
The restaurant’s new wine program will include sustainable wines from across the Mediterranean, including from Cyprus, Lebanon, Sicily and Croatia. From the bar, only Mediterranean beers will be served, and the cocktails will include some riffs on Mediterranean classics, like an amphora-aged negroni. The restaurant now also includes The Cove, a 16-seat private dining and events room.
Garibaldi hours are 4:30-10 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 4 to 10 p.m. Saturdays; and 4 to 9 p.m. Sundays at 901 Bayfront Court, Suite 1, downtown. 619-436-1081, garibaldisd.com.

Dan Valerino, Finca co-owner and wine director, said being named to the list is a tribute to San Diego’s rising profile as a wine destination. “To be able to represent the city makes me unbelievably proud,” he said. “None of us would be featured in a national publication if San Diego wasn’t beginning to get the attention it deserves. We have world class operators here and we cannot wait to see which of us is recognized next.” 3066 N. Park Way, San Diego. finca.wine
