SCI-Arc’s new Director and CEO Winka Dubbeldam has offered an insight into her vision for the school as the new academic year begins. Dubbeldam was appointed to the position in April, replacing Hernán Díaz Alonso.

In a message, Dubbeldam pledged to continue to foster a “future-focused, rigorous, and solution-oriented culture” at the school, noting that it was “more important than ever to embody an informed optimism by leveraging technology with care and responding to global challenges with empathy and responsibility.” Earlier this week, we covered news of a new exhibition to launch at the school exploring ways design can shape wildfire resilience.

“SCI-Arc has always welcomed the previously untested, operating beyond the limitations of traditional learning,” Dubbeldam added. “I look forward to contributing to this spirit through a research-led and experimental approach — supporting students as they develop critical tools, ideas, and strategies for a rapidly transforming world. I am thrilled to join this remarkable community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni, and to begin this next chapter together.”
