The American women’s basketball league, the WNBA, has a recurring problem — sex toys. For the fourth time in the last nine days, a dildo was hurled onto the playing surface during a North American professional game.
During the 86-65 win by the Atlanta Dream over the Chicago Sky, a purple dildo landed on the court in the final seconds. Since July 29, dildos had also been thrown onto the court in Atlanta, in Chicago, and in Los Angeles — all green in color, TheColu.mn reported. According to U.S. media, citing police, another sex toy had been tossed before the purple dildo, without reaching the playing surface.
Fines or Jail Time Possible
In the U.S. states of Georgia and Arizona, two men have since been arrested, accused of throwing dildos onto the courts. They face charges of disorderly conduct, unlawful entry onto someone else’s property, public indecency, and lewd exposure. A conviction could bring fines or imprisonment. The WNBA issued a sharp condemnation of the incidents in a statement and warned of at least a one-year ban from arenas.
Players and coaches in the WNBA had already spoken out critically about the incidents. “Everyone is doing everything to make sure the WNBA isn’t a joke and is taken seriously, and then something like this happens,” said Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever on her podcast. The Indiana Fever forward was almost struck by a dildo in Los Angeles. “I wonder: How are we ever going to be taken seriously?”
