(WFSB) – A battle over public health continues Friday.
Democratic-led states in the northeast teamed up to determine their own vaccine guidance as the federal government scheduled a big vote on its recommendations.
Families continued to be sent mixed messages when it came to vaccines, especially COVID-19 shots. There has been confusion about which medical professionals to trust.
Connecticut joined six states and New York City to collaborate on recommendations and vaccine guidance.
Gov. Ned Lamont said he hates that public health is red state versus blue state, but that it’s important to have a very credible group making comments about vaccinations.
Democratic states have been battling with the Trump administration over if COVID vaccines are necessary. There have been reports that Health and Human Services secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would push to ban them.
A key vote was scheduled for Friday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a vaccine recommendations committee with all new members picked by Kennedy.
That’s the committee conducting the vote on recommendations for the fall.
However, the vote won’t be final.
The CDC director must approve the vaccine recommendations. In the past, they have almost always approved them.
