SAN ANTONIO – A new suspect has been named in connection with the murder of 14-year-odl Simon Cuevas Jr. The teen was brutally beaten and murdered in April while walking home from Brewer Academy.

On Friday the San Antonio Police Department called for the community’s help locating 17-year-old Andrew Cantu.

Cantu is not the only person facing capital murder charges for Simon Cuevas’ murder. 18-year-old Fernando Flores was arrested in August. After Flores was arrested Cuevas’s mother told us the arrest gave her hope.

“It was a sense of relief that somebody has finally been caught,” Alejandra Cuevas said. “It still hurts because nothing brings my son back. But at least knowing the individuals involved are going to be held accountable.”

Two unidentified siblings who are 14 and 16-years-old are also in custody in connection with Cuevas’ murder. Their next court hearing is scheduled for September 25th.

Last month police also told us 20-year-old Caesar Tijerina was wanted for capital murder at the time sources say Tijerina was on the run and hiding in Laredo with police closing in on his location. We were told Tijerina was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and later died.

The past five months have resulted in five suspects, but his mother says many questions remain.

Anyone with information on Cantu’s location can contact SAPD’s homicide unit at 210-207-2152.
