Silent protests, frustrated residents and a standoff with the police – that’s what Bengaluru’s IT corridor witnessed earlier today and the video of the protest is now making waves online. Journalist Deepak Bopanna shared a clip on X (formerly Twitter) that captured a glimpse of the peaceful protest turning into a tense moment as police intervened.

Sharing the video, the journalist wrote, “Standoff in the IT corridor between residents and cops for protesting over poor infrastructure in their area. Residents tried to hold silent protests outside apartments, demanding better roads, but cops stopped protestors, citing a lack of permission. Visuals from Lakeside Habitat apt.”

The issue? Poor roads, bad infrastructure and the never-ending struggle of daily commute in the city’s IT hub.

Silent Protest Turns Into Standoff

According to the video, residents had stepped out for a silent demonstration, standing outside their apartment complex for a peaceful protest. Their demand was simple: better roads and improved infrastructure around their locality. For people living in the area that houses some of the biggest IT professionals, crumbling infrastructure has been an issue for a while now.

According to The Logical Indian, the protest was cut short when the police arrived on the scene. Officers reportedly told residents to disperse, citing the lack of official permission for protesting. However, the protestors insisted they were standing silently and peacefully. Authorities, on the other hand, maintained they could not allow it without prior approval.

Social Media Reacts

The video quickly caught people’s attention online and sparked a fresh round of debate about civic issues in Bengaluru. Many users called out authorities for stopping people from asking for basic amenities, with one of them questioning, “Why do people need permission to protest peacefully?” Another, seemingly agitated, pointed out, “Why is he bothered if we ask for good roads. We are helping him to save his spine and bones. Just because he has no right to protest, he can’t prevent a peaceful protest by aggrieved citizens who pay taxes.”

Someone else noted, ‘Kudos to the folks for showing up. I hope more and more people start protesting peacefully and hold people accountable.” Someone else stepped in with a hilarious suggestion, though and wrote, “Protest in your cars and police cannot do anything because it’ll be regarded as traffic.”

The video is a reminder of how citizens in Bengaluru are facing struggles related to roads and infrastructure.
