A CTA bus struck a home in Chicago’s Jefferson Park neighborhood after a hit-and-run crash set off a dramatic series of events, police said.
According to authorities, the crash happened just before 11 p.m. in the 5500 block of North Central Avenue.
There, a black sedan traveling eastbound on Catalpa allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the bus on the driver’s side. The crash caused the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle, sending it into a parked car, then a fence and ultimately ending with the bus in the side of a residential building.
The bus was being driven by a 46-year-old woman, who suffered a laceration to the head, police said. She was taken to an area hospital in fair condition.
The driver of the sedan fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.
No passengers were on the bus and no other injuries were reported, according to authorities.
The building suffered structural damage and five residents were displaced.
An investigation remained ongoing with no one in custody as of Sunday morning, police said.
