SAN ANTONIO – It was a night of celebration inside the Stars at Night Ballroom as San Antonio Sports welcomed its newest class of Hall of Famers on Saturday evening.

A packed crowd filled the Henry B. González Convention Center for the annual event, emceed by News 4 Sports Director Don Harris.

This year’s inductees included four legendary individuals along with the San Antonio Spurs’ 1999 championship team, marking a special moment in the city’s storied sports history.

The class featured former SAISD superintendent Dr. Victor Rodriguez, multi-sport star Sharon Neugebauer-Shepard, who was an All-American in track and volleyball at the University of Texas, the original Spurs Coyote, Tim Derk, and former Alamo Heights basketball coach Charlie Boggess.

The honor was long overdue for coach Boggess, San Antonio’s all time winningest high school basketball coach, put up just an amazing record, all while having a lasting impact on the lives of the young men he influenced.

Since 1995, the Sports Hall of Fame has recognized people with San Antonio ties who have impacted the city’s sports community with their involvement or athletic programs.

Proceeds from the gala benefit San Antonio Sports’ youth and community programs, which provide sports and fitness opportunities for thousands of kids every year.
