The Coronado Public Library announces a free recital with the award-winning, international concert pianist, Dr. Vania Pimentel, Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. on the Library’s Steinway in the Winn Room.
Pimentel, an audience favorite at the Brown Bag concerts, has planned a program entitled “The Great B’s: Bach-Barber-Beethoven-Brahms.”
Many concert goers and musicians may know “The Three B’s,” derived from Peter Cornelius in 1854, who was referring to Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Hector Berlioz. Later, the famous conductor Hans von Bulow substituted Johannes Brahms for Berlioz. These remain the three most famous classical composers for most people: Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.
Pimentel, who has studied her great “B’s” in depth, has added the important American composer, Samuel Barber (1910-1981), because she considers him to be a first-class or A+ grade piano composer.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, the virtuosic Pimentel has performed solo recitals and in chamber music programs in the US, Brazil, and Europe since the 1970s. She began receiving scholarships, honors and awards in piano competitions at the age of seven. She has earned both a BA in Piano and a BA in Philosophy from Brazil, a KA (a graduate diploma for the arts) from Germany, a MA and a DMA in Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Houston. Pimentel belongs to the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
Pimentel receives thunderous standing ovations. Mark your calendars now to hear this master pianist.
