Last week was a good week for San Diego’s tech companies.
The 18th annual Top Tech Awards, presented by Cox Business, recognized 14 of San Diego’s top technology innovators on Sept. 18.
The Top Tech of the Year Award winner was Unfold Labs, Inc‘s chief executive officer and founder Asokan Ashok, who has more than 25 years of experience in the tech industry, per the Unfold Labs, Inc. website.
Held at Snapdragon stadium, the awards ceremony hosted more than 500 people including the region’s IT leaders.
Other winners include YMCA of San Diego County senior vice president and chief information officer John Merritt and senior director of engineering of Mitchell International, Abhijeet Gulati.
Peers nominated award winners, and a panel of local tech leaders and previous award winners gave the deciding votes. Judges chose winners from among more than 200 nominees across 14 categories.
“We were thrilled once again to celebrate the giant talent driving San Diego’s technology sector,” Jodi Duva, California vice president of Cox Business, said in a release.
“The 2025 recipients exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit and creative problem-solving that make our region a true hub for technological advancement. We’re proud to shine a light on the many achievements and positive impact they’re making throughout our city and beyond.”
Launched in 2008, the awards ceremony originated with then-Cox Business vice president Larry Coval as a way to “honor the unsung heroes in innovation.”
In 2011, the awards branched out into Las Vegas. It has since recognized more than 2000 tech leaders, according to its website.
Additional honorees included Jennifer Oliveira from South Bay Union School District, Sean Sorians from San Diego Police Department Crime Laboratory, Ben Mortenson from Social Advocate for Youth San Diego, Tara Sparks from Jamul Casino, and more.
