SAN ANTONIO – A late-night fire tore through a duplex in Far Northeast Bexar County, displacing two families.

The fire started just before midnight Monday at a duplex off Forest Ridge Drive near Gibbs-Sprawl Road.

Fire crews arrived to find flames shooting through the roof of the building. The fire caused a partial roof and chimney collapse, leaving the structure severely damaged.

Both families who lived in the duplex were able to escape safely. One firefighter was evaluated by emergency medical personnel at the scene, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
