JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man in his mid-40s died Wednesday morning after he was found lying on the side of the street on Lem Turner Road, police said. Investigators said his injuries were consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
According to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Rob Hungerford, the man was found in the roadway on Lem Turner Road, across from an elementary school, just before 7 a.m. by someone who called 911.
He was lying on the side of the road by a sidewalk near the entrance to Roses grocery store in the Riverview neighborhood, Hungerford said.
Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he died.
Hungerford said detectives are combing through surveillance footage from three locations, trying to find a potential suspect vehicle from the deadly hit-and-run.
He said at the moment they don’t have any identifying information to share about a vehicle, and they ask anyone who might have seen the man being struck to call investigators with their information.
“We just need a piece of the puzzle,” Hungerford said. “My guys are phenomenal, the detectives in this unit, traffic homicide, they find every little piece of evidence. … So we just need a piece of the puzzle to work our way back to figuring out who did what.”
