Los Angeles authorities Friday investigated a bizarre accident involving a female pedestrian in downtown Los Angeles.

Police said a woman in her 30s was crossing Wilshire Boulevard near Figueroa Street at around 8 p.m. Thursday, then she collapsed on the roadway without any apparent reasons.

As she remained unconscious on the street, a 1987 Honda Civic that was traveling in the area struck her and ran her over. The driver of the car got out, police said, and called 911 after realizing that he had run over the female pedestrian.

The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

The male driver remained on the scene and was cooperative, according to the LAPD, adding that there were no drugs or alcohol in his system.

It was not immediately clear if the woman was a transient or if she was under the influence.

No arrests were made.
