Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team may not have a football game to use as a recruiting tool this weekend, as Kalen DeBoer leads Alabama football to Athens, Georgia, for a date with the Bulldogs, but that hasn’t stopped Oats from landing a visit from one of the top players in the 2026 recruiting class.
According to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports/Rivals, five-star combo guard Brandon McCoy is visiting Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend.
Alabama was able to begin practice this week, so no doubt Nate Oats already has his team preparing for the 2025-26 college basketball season. Recruits can visit and watch practice to see how they would fit in the coach’s scheme.
McCoy, a consensus five-star prospect from Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, is ranked as the No. 6 overall player in the class, the No. 3 combo guard, and the No. 2 player in California, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
McCoy has already taken one official visit this fall, visiting the Arkansas Razorbacks on September 5. He has one more confirmed visit scheduled for the fall, set to see the Duke Blue Devils on November 1.
Adam Finkelstein, the Director of Scouting at 247 Sports, evaluated McCoy for 247 Sports, and in his evaluation, he calls McCoy “one of the most physically imposing guards in the class…McCoy is also one of the very best defenders in the class…Offensively, he plays with a lot of sheer force…”
Alabama men’s basketball will open its season at home against North Dakota on November 3.
