PHOENIX — A West Valley man has died after being hit by a car that left the scene of the collision on Thursday night, authorities said Friday.
Michael Cathcart, 40, was killed in the crash, which happened while he was crossing the street, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Around 8 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called due to a pedestrian being hit by a car just south of 91st Avenue and Camelback Road.
At the scene, officers found Cathcart, who was seriously injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
According to police, Cathcart was crossing 91st Avenue near Highland Avenue when he was hit.
The driver of the car left the scene, but later turned themselves in after hearing about the severity of the crash.
That person was interviewed by detectives, but was released.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
