Senne Lammens is waiting to make his Manchester United debut after being named on the bench in games against Man City and Chelsea.

Ruben Amorim left it late to address the goalkeeping position during the summer.

Andre Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan after losing his place in the team to Altay Bayindir, who has started in every Premier League game this season.

It took until transfer deadline day for United to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

United fans are eager to see Lammens make his debut after being named as a substitute for the Manchester derby and United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

The young Belgian stopper could make his first appearance for United when the Red Devils travel to Brentford on Saturday.

United’s goalkeeping situation has caused lots of confusion.

Bayindir wasn’t deemed good enough to challenge Onana last term, but he currently finds himself being Amorim’s first-choice option.

Amorim has taken a patient approach with his new keeper, even though Ben Jacobs has revealed that those in football circles believe Lammens is the ‘next big thing’.

Lammens was also compared to Chelsea’s young Belgian keeper, Mike Penders.

Jacobs said: “This is a goalkeeper (Lammens) that in circles both Manchester United and the wider industry is mentioned in the same breath as Mike Penders, another Belgian goalkeeper at Chelsea who’s on loan at Strasbourg.

“And these two are seen as kind of generational talents. the next big thing.”

That is a suggestion that Lammens could follow in the footsteps of Belgium’s number one, Thibaut Courtois, who has won the Champions League on two occasions with Real Madrid.

Roy Carroll urges patience with Lammens

Former United goalkeeper Roy Carroll knows about the pressures that come with the role and urged fans to be patient with the 23-year-old.

Lammens will need time to adjust to the Premier League since he has only experienced professional football in Belgium.

Carroll cited David de Gea’s early struggles as an example of what patience can bring to a young goalkeeper.

Carroll told BBC Sport: “He’s only 23, please, please give him time and let him grow as a Manchester United goalkeeper. We did it for David de Gea when he came in. He was a very young goalkeeper and a successful one even before he came to Manchester United as well.

“Time is a precious commodity but we need to give it. Every goalkeeper makes mistakes, the key is not to make too many.”
