  • Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter made a key 28-yard reception to convert a third-and-15.
  • Hunter finished the game with a season-high 42 yards on three catches.
  • He played his lightest workload of the season with 39 offensive snaps and nine defensive snaps.

It was another quiet game for Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick Travis Hunter in their 26-21 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 28.

But as in the previous week’s victory over Houston, Hunter made one offensive play that showed the potential if the Jaguars can figure out a consistent way to get him involved in the offense.

Hunter went high to haul in a pass from Trevor Lawrence early in the second quarter that resulted in a 28-yard gain, his longest of the season. It turned out to be a huge play: The reception converted a third-and-15 from the Jaguars’ 7-yard line, a hole dug on back-to-back holding penalties on tackles Walker Little and Anton Harrison

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan threw the red flag for officials to review the play, claiming Hunter never had control of the football. Replays showed that while Hunter bobbled the ball momentarily, he had control by the time he hit the ground.

“I was definitely confident [that he caught the ball],” Hunter said.

Did he think it was a breakthrough moment for him?

“Nah, I just went out there and did my job and did what I had to do for the team, which was get a first down,” he said.

The Jaguars went on to score on a 93-yard drive to take a 14-3 lead.

Hunter caught two more passes, and his three receptions gave him a season-high 42 yards. He had a 10-yard reception on the Jaguars’ drive at the end of the first half that led to a 44-yard Cam Little field goal.

Hunter had one tackle and one assist on defense. His solo tackle was on tight end Luke Farrell after a 9-yard reception and an assist on wide receiver Ricky Pearsall after a 7-yard gain that converted a third-and-two

How many plays did Travis get vs. the 49ers?

After getting 83 snaps the previous week against Houston, Hunter had his lightest workload of the season with unofficially 39 plays on offense and nine on defense.

Hunter did not play defense in the second half. After he had three snaps on punt teams last week against Houston, he did not have a special teams snap vs. the 49ers.
