A man was injured after a police shooting in north Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
At around 4:20 p.m. Sept. 28, the shooting happened near 32nd Avenue and Bell Road, spokesperson Sgt. Brian Bower said in an email to The Arizona Republic.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital, and no officers were injured in the shooting, Bower said. There was no immediate threat to the public, and no suspects were outstanding.
The man was threatening to shoot himself, and officers negotiated with him to seek mental health treatment for over an hour before the shooting took place, said spokesperson Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez.
The Department of Public Safety’s major incident division will be taking over the investigation, according to Bower.
There have been at least 54 police shootings in Arizona so far in 2025, with at least 38 of them fatal.
