EV Grieve reports that the East Village location of Corner Bistro (94 Avenue A, at East Sixth Street) opens today, Monday, September 29, at 11 a.m. The menu echoes the original with its burger and brunch standards, along with a handful of new dishes like meatloaf, onion rings, baked French toast, the site reports. The original restaurant opened in the early 1960s and touts itself as “one of the last bohemian bars” in the neighborhood. The burger is still under $20, one of the few around. The outpost will be open until midnight, with later hours in the future.

Party place Big Night is opening another shop Uptown

Big Night, the dinner party store, continues its expansion across the city with a third location in the Upper East Side (1015 Lexington Avenue, at East 73rd Street), coming Wednesday, October 15.

Katherine Lewin, formerly the editorial director of the Infatuation, opened the first Big Night location in Greenpoint, at 154 Franklin Street, in 2021 as a tiny, one-stop shop for dinner party essentials. Selling glassware and table linens alongside tinned fish and tahini from local brands, Big Night quickly established itself as a destination for hosts and guests alike. It also became a symbol of the rise of the “shoppy shop,” highly curated stores where you could first find trendy names like Omsom, Graza, and Fishwife.

In May 2023, Big Night opened a second location in the West Village, at 236 W 10th Street. In early 2025, it expanded its Greenpoint location, which reopened in May.

As part of the nationwide Starbucks shutters, several Upper East Side stores have closed, including three locations on the UES and one in Tribeca. Of the latter, Tribeca Citizen reports that two other branches closed earlier this year. The most recent closings are part of the 400 stores on track to shutter nationwide.

South Korean first lady was at Woorijip; Nick and Sons is making a paw paw danish; and the Sandwich Board (115 Eldridge at Broome Street) is expanding, timed with its one-year anniversary earlier this month. The shop featuring just a walk-up window will now offer standing tables to accommodate 12-15 people inside, where they can order items like the Mala Tsangwich with fried chicken ($14).
