SAN ANTONIO – A Monday morning vehicle pursuit that began south of Medina County ended in Southwest Bexar County, where several people fled on foot, sparking a massive search.
The chase, initiated by the Frio County Sheriff’s Office, drew support from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Border Patrol, according to authorities. The vehicle eventually stopped near Old Pearsall Road and Nelson Road in Southwest Bexar County, where multiple suspects reportedly jumped out and scattered into the surrounding area.
Medina County deputies deployed search dogs, and a state police helicopter circled overhead. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it assisted in the effort to help locate the individuals who fled.
Though authorities did not immediately confirm the nature of the incident, officials familiar with the operation said the circumstances suggested it was related to human smuggling, a persistent challenge along the busy migration corridors that cross South Texas.
The Southwest Independent School District said it was monitoring the situation. While the scene was not close to Southwest High School, the district confirmed its police officers were on standby should the situation shift closer to campus.
