An investigation is underway after police said a young man was shot and killed overnight in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood following an argument.

According to police, just before 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, officers were called to the area of 31st and Norris Street after receiving reports of gunshots.

When officers arrived, police said they found an 18-year-old man lying in the backyard of a private residence on the 1900 block of North 31st Street near a fence. He was unresponsive and suffering from one gunshot wound to his torso.

Police rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m.

At the scene, police said more than ten spent shell casings were found. It appears that the shooter or shooters were firing from multiple locations in that area.

Police said a witness reported seeing a verbal altercation that escalated into gunfire. Two witnesses have been transported to police headquarters for questioning.

Investigators hope that real-time crime cameras and several private surveillance cameras in the area will help them with this investigation.

Police believe that the shooter or shooters may have been a part of a group of teens and after the gunfire, they may have fled the scene in a white or light-colored SUV.
