SAN ANTONIO – A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Monday’s fatal shooting on the West Side.

Dominick Ivan Juarez turned himself in to police at a downtown bus stop on Dolorosa Street, according to the arrest report. Officers said Juarez was carrying a .40-caliber Glock handgun that matched shell casings recovered at the scene.

Police were called out around 9 p.m. to the corner of North Colorado Street, between Ruiz and Leal Streets. There they wound 21-year-old Pedro Jaramillo with multiple bullet wounds all over his body, including his neck, legs, and groin. Jaramillo was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but tragically passed away en route to the hospital.

Witnesses told police they heard multiple gunshots before seeing Jaramillo collapse in the street and several people flee the area.

Detectives said Juarez admitted to the shooting during a recorded interview, telling investigators he had been intoxicated and waiting near a convenience store with friends. As they were walking back to their apartment, Jaramillo approached “with his hands in his pockets and slouched over.” According to Juarez’s statement, the victim told the group, “This is my block and everyone knows me here.” Juarez told police he feared being robbed, pulled out his handgun and fired several times.

Investigators said Juarez’s account did not justify the use of deadly force.

“There is no justification for shooting the victim based on his own statement,” the arrest report reads.

Juarez was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of murder.
