1 Dallas Water Department — A month or so ago, the Dallas Fire Department flushed out a fire hydrant in our Lake Highlands neighborhood and a few hours later, we noticed the water in our area was cloudy and murky.

I called 311 for the Water Utilities Department and reported the issue, and less than 45 minutes later, a representative from that department showed up and bled it out. Within an hour, we were back to normal.

So hats off to the quick response of 311 and the Water Utilities Department and the nice gentleman that had to withstand the heat to get his job done.

2 Stan Levenson — In late August, The Dallas Morning News announced the death of a very good man, Stan Levenson. As chronicled in the obituary, Stan had a successful career in public relations with numerous high-profile clients.

And while his professional accomplishments were extraordinary, it was his character that defined his impact on so many of us in and beyond Dallas. He was the personification of kindness. He was in every way a gentle and caring man.

We will miss Stan’s servant spirit and the warmth of his broad smile. He taught us much about unconditional friendship and goodwill to all.

Bravo to Texas Trees Foundation and those philanthropic citizens whose support will transform Southwestern Medical District on Harry Hines Boulevard into a much safer and environmentally friendly green space!
