Whether you’re a longtime lover of classical music or just beginning to explore it, you won’t want to miss Lesi Mei in concert on the Library’s Steinway piano. On Friday, October 3, at 1 p.m., Mei will perform a program featuring a beautifully varied repertoire, with works by Couperin, Liszt, Ravel, and more. Beyond her artistry at the piano, Mei has explored many fields—including bioengineering and kinesiology—but it is music that has shaped her most deeply, a passion clearly demonstrated in her performances.
All concerts in the series are free thanks to the support of the Friends of the Coronado Public Library and the City of Coronado. The Winn Room doors will open to the public 15 minutes prior to the performance.
Mei was the first call pianist for Beijing International Orchestra before traveling the U.S. from coast to coast, performing in such festivals as the Mostly Modern Festival in Saratoga Springs, International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York City, and Olympiad Piano Festival in Colorado Springs, where she was a semifinalist in the concerto competition. Lesi has also been frequently invited by the Composers Concordance to New York City to premiere works by Gene Pritsker, Seth Boustead, Peter Jarvis, etc. As an in-demand collaborator, Lesi has performed with ensembles such as American Modern Orchestra, La Jolla Symphony, and the Hausmann Quartet, to name a few. Her performance diploma hails from the European Music Institute in Vienna, under the tutelage of the esteemed Professor Martin Hughes. Currently, Lesi is a faculty member at SDSU and Mesa College. Lesi holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from San Diego State University, a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Biological Engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology.
