They say that winning cures everything. But despite being 4-0 on the season, the Philadelphia Eagles seem to have some trouble in paradise among a few star players.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Eagles star wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are “frustrated” with their current roles in the Eagles’ offense. Brown has publicly been expressing his disappointment with his lack of targets this season, while Smith appears to be venting his frustration privately.

“A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are frustrated with their roles in the Eagles’ offense, multiple sources tell me. One is venting more publicly than the other. But both want something to change — specifically in the red zone,” Russini wrote.

State of the Eagles

Brown and Smith have combined for just over 300 yards and two touchdowns through four games. Despite combining for nearly half of QB Jalen Hurts’ passing attempts this season and more than half of the yards, tight end Dallas Goedert has seemingly been the go-to guy on red zone passes (when the ball isn’t being handed off or just run in by Hurts himself).

As it stands, the Eagles’ offense ranks top-10 in points scored but bottom three in yards. They throw the ball less than any other team in the league.

All four of the Eagles’ wins have been one-score affairs. Their defense has forced turnovers in every game while their own offense has only given the ball away once.

It seems safe to say that the threat of Brown and Smith is just as effective if not more than their actual on-field production.

But Brown and Smith want the ball in their hands, not just to help the team but to help their respective careers. They might see themselves as luxury cars gathering dust in a garage and prefer to go somewhere where they’d be more utilized – if there isn’t a change soon.
