Frank D. Alessio
OBITUARY
Frank Alessio, a devoted leader, philanthropist, and pillar of the San Diego community, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 22. A San Diego native, Frank earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from San Diego State University, where he met his wife, Linda Falk. They married in 1959, began their family in Del Cerro with sons Marco and Danny, and then settled in La Jolla.
After graduation, Frank joined his family’s business, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of San Diego, ultimately serving as president and director. Following the company’s sale in 1983, he became an active commercial real estate investor and managing member of FDA Capital, LLC.
Frank’s devotion to public service was evident in his graduation from the San Diego Police Academy and membership in the Honorary Deputy Sheriffs Association. He held influential positions on the boards of Torrey Pines Bank and The Price Company, and was a founding director and vice chairman of Price REIT. He was a valued member of the Wells Fargo Community Board, the USD School of Law’s Children’s Advocacy Institute, and the Diocesan Finance Council of the Diocese of San Diego.
Throughout his life, Frank generously donated his time and leadership to numerous organizations, including San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care, Rady Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital, the San Diego Heart Association, Phoenix House, the Old Globe Theatre, The Century Club, and the Greater San Diego Sports Association. He was honored as director emeritus of the San Diego International Sports Council.
Frank dedicated 31 years (1986-2017) to the University of San Diego’s Board of Trustees, where he contributed to the athletics, campaign, executive, facilities, finance, investment, and trustees committees, including eight years as vice-chair. He was later honored with the title trustee emeritus.
Frank is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda; their son, Danny; and their grandson, Nicholas. He is survived by his son, Marco, and his wife, Kimberly Alessio; his daughter-in-law, Trish Coffeen; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Abigail, Alexandra, Elizabeth, and Danny Alessio. He will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, and tireless dedication to making San Diego a better place for all. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A service will be held at 10:30 am on November 1, 2025 at The Immaculata on the University of San Diego campus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Frank and Linda Alessio Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA 92110..
